Bump-N-Run Racing began in Roundup, MT in 1989, when a group of people decided they wanted more to do than demolition derby with their cars.  They came up with the idea of building a dirt track with sharp corners and jumps, which would take driver skill and luck that the car would keep running.  They found old cars and stripped them down, got them running, and took them out on the track.  Next came the rules, being very simple at first.  More people were enjoying the sport, and as more people built cars, the list of rules grew.  It now works like this.  There are currently two different classes of cars.  The limited, previously know as stock, and the modified class cars.  First you compete in a heat in which you are lined up from a random drawing.  The winners of the heats move on to the Main Events.  Depending on the number of cars, usually the first and second place heat finishers move onto the A Main.  The third and fourth go to the B Main and the fifth and sixth to the C Main, with all other cars in the Hard Luck.  If you win in the C Main you may move up to the B main.  If you win the B Main you also have the option to move up to the A Main.

You can now find a race happening almost every weekend from the beginning of May until the beginning of October.  There are tracks in many Montana towns and soon to be in North Dakota, along with drivers from many different areas.  The number of women racing in the sport is also continuing to grow.  On race day, it is not uncommon to see drivers and pitmen helping their rivals get their car going for the next race.  Many families travel thousands of miles each year just to be a part of the action.  Awards are given at the end of the year.  There is also a points system that awards points to drivers, many race all summer in hopes of being the points champion.  Bump-n-running is a lot of work, but lots of fun too.  If you want to join the action of bumps, jumps, twists, hairpin turns, mud holes, and the excitement of racing, or if  you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact one of the people on the Tracks and Contacts list or Email info@bumpnrunracing.com
