MONTANA BUMP N RUN ASSOCIATION
2008 RACE-DAY TRACK GUIDELINES
THE TRACK:
PLEASE NOTE THAT INDIVIDUALS WILL ASSIST ANY TRACK OR PERSPECTIVE NEW TRACK.
Keep in mind when designing a new track that the cars may reach high speeds. Barriers will need to be made along the track to keep cars on it, and to protect the area around the track and the drivers. Tires, dirt barriers, or logs may be used to mark the track.
§ The track may consist of left, right or hairpin turns, straight section, muddy area, sandy area, or bumps. Bumps must have a ratio of 6:1, being no higher than 4’. This ensures the ability to see stalled cars on the other side of the jump.
§ The track should be watered daily for about a week before the race. Water truck(s) will also be needed to water the track between races. If possible, have a water hose available in pit area for racers to use for their cars.
§ Tracks might consider racers to “pack the track” on race day instead of run “hot laps”.
§ The track should be approximately 3/8ths of a mile around. The tracks should be about 32—40 feet wide so there is room for two cars to pass.
§ Design the track so spectators will be able to see the entire track.
§ State at driver’s meeting if there are any rules specific to your track (i.e. can not race on flat tire).
§ Check with other tracks in your area to see when they have reserved their date(s) so that races can be scheduled within a close radius on the same weekend, to limit the number of miles traveled for back-to-back races. Two Points races will NOT be held on the same day. Schedule your season races before April 15. Each track is limited to a maximum of three (3) Points races per season. After all tracks have scheduled their races, other tracks may schedule non-points races.
§ A $100 non refundable Track Points Race fee is due to Kristi Burns, Treasurer, at PO Box 253, Baker MT 59313, before May 1st.
§ There are 2 classes of cars that will be competing: Limited and Modified. Limited cars must meet all the criteria for the car to be “limited”. If the car is questionable, or in violation of the limited rules, it will race in the modified class. The modified class also has rules, and the tech inspector will need to check each car carefully. Having at least 2-3 people to properly inspect cars is recommended. Please read over the rules carefully and have people that will follow and strictly enforce these rules.
§ Ambulance crew or EMT must be on hand. Wreckers, tractors, or something else will be needed to remove disabled cars from the track.
§ Wristbands are needed for the drivers and people that will be allowed in the pit area. Wrist bands must be worn on the wrist. MTBNR officers carry a “Season Pass” that allows them into all races and the pits, at no charge. Make sure they sign a release and are given a wrist band.
§ The LLC will provide one set of “traveling” flags but you might prefer to have your own set of the following colored flags:
Green Flag – 1 White flag – 1 Checkered flag – 1 Black flag – 1
Yellow flag – and – Red Flag one for each flagman (at least 6)

PIT AREA RULES:
§ No one under the age of 15 allowed in pit without a guardian signing a release form during registration. Children referred to on the release form are required to have a pit pass. Pit passes distributed at registration must be worn on the wrist at all times while in the pit.
§ Pit members are limited to the driver, and two crewmembers. Additional personnel in your pit, including children under 15, will be required to pay an additional fee determined by each track.
§ Each registered car is allowed one support vehicle. Remove trailers if required by track. Tracks must enforce the limited amount of support vehicles and unsupervised children in the pits because of the dangers involved.
§ 5 MPH speed limit in pits for all vehicles at all times.
§ No alcohol or controlled substances in pit area before and during races. Drivers, crewmembers, officials or volunteers who drink before end of all races will be removed from pit area. Any one planning to drive Pitman or Powder Puff may not consume alcoholic beverages prior to that race. All entry fees and winnings forfeited for anyone violating this. Track officials or volunteers drinking during races may forfeit their right to host future races. The Association may decide further penalties.
ON TRACK RULES:
§ Helmets and seatbelts must be worn and fastened at all times while on the track.
§ Repairs allowed during race only in pit area or designated repair area. Cars leaving the track will lose their positions. No work is allowed on or off the track during red flag conditions. Cars leaving the track under green flag, before red flag, will line up at last position at the restart. If you leave under a red flag situation, you are disqualified! Don’t come back onto track.
§ Red flag restarts: If less than one lap has been completed, cars will line up in original order. If more than one lap has been completed, cars will start single file at the start/finish line in the order they were running on the last full lap completed when the red flag was thrown. Trailing car will move up to the leader.
§ Cars involved in a red flag situation are out for that heat/main. Car must be re-inspected before racing again.
§ Race format to be determined by the number of cars entered. Track will determine how many cars in each heat/main will move up. Drivers will be informed of this during the driver’s meeting.
§ No cutting corners allowed. If you go off course, either pushed or out of control, re-enter as close as possible to where you went off. If pushed off at a jump, you don’t have to go back to the jump. Wait until it is safe to re-enter the track. May not gain a position. Each promoter has the right to make track specific requests/consequences based on each unique track situation. Red flag may be thrown to clear track of stalled cars possibly causing danger to racers.
§ If any part of the car comes loose and is a safety hazard, officials may throw a WAVED black flag for safety. The car must go to pits and driver is done for that race. Hoods and trunks that fall off the car result in a waved black flag.
§ Do not disrupt track officials, flagmen, or lap counters with on-track problems. Any issues that you feel need to be discussed should be written down on paper and given to a track official or LLC member. Your issue may be handled on race day or may be brought up before the next race date.
§ Driver must remain in the car at all times while on the track unless directed to exit by a track official. If driver chooses to remain in the car, they must be wearing their harness and helmet and have window net fastened.
§ If you are involved in a roll over, all involved cars are out for that heat/main. If deemed a blatant hit, driver is done racing for the day. Any driver/sportsmanship level decisions will be made by the majority of Board members present, as long as they are not involved in the situation. If rollover is deemed unintentional (hard racing), all involved cars will finish the race in whatever position they are in at end of race. Drivers receive points and any payout of their final position.
§ Only track officials are allowed on the track. No one else may enter the track unless directed to do so by a track official.
§ If you do not take the green flag, you can not race in that race. Tracks will NOT hold up races for a racer who is not at the line when all other cars are.
§ Deliberate or excessive contact to the driver’s door may be grounds for a black flag. Any hitting that officials deem excessive may cause black flag or possible suspension. Drivers will not be allowed to use their cars in demolition derby style tactics.
§ Disqualification will result if car and /or driver are substituted after qualifying for the heat.
§ Driver has the responsibility of knowing when the race is over. Any excessive contact after checkered flag is thrown may result in disqualification.
§ No passengers except in an exhibition.
FLAGS:
Green: Go! Race started
White: One lap left in race
Yellow: Caution only. Keep racing but be cautious. Hanging yellow flag is the same obstacle. Waving yellow flag is a new hazard.

Waved Black: Go to pit. Done for that race.
2 Crossed flags: Half way through race.
